On January 15, Wuhan Cihui Organic Vegetables Base has been authorized and given the title by National Organic Agricultural Product Authentication Organization—Beijing Wuyue Huaxia Technical Management Center and becomes the first production base of organic vegetables in the five provinces of Central China. The first batch of organic vegetables of Cihui Farm will go on the market before the Spring Festival, selling to various local supermarkets in the urban. During the period of spring festival, Wuhan residents may taste the pure natural, high-quality, safe, nutritious and healthy organic vegetables of Cihui Farm.
Organic vegetables are the world top “ecology vegetables” produced and processed according to the requirements of organic agricultural products manufacturing procedure and the corresponding national series standards; in its production and processing procedure, strict regulations are put forward on the soil, atmosphere, water source, etc. and pure natural biological fertilizer will be used; synthesized materials of agricultural chemicals, chemical fertilizer and hormone are strictly prohibited and the genetic engineering technology will not be used.
Cihui Organic Vegetables Planting and Production Base, located at Baxiang Production Team of Cihui Farm, is the organic agriculture (vegetables) food project mutually developed by Cihui Farm and Wuhan Aoge Organic Vegetables Research Institute. This base with 200 mu area has 15 high-level technical personnel, with 15-20 domestic and foreign famous, superior and special vegetable varieties planted. The establishment of Cihui Organic Vegetables Base fills the vacancy of organic vegetable production base in Central China region; it is estimated that this production base has annually 498 tons vegetables going on the market; and the market price of organic vegetables is 3-6 times of ordinary vegetables; the base has signed the letter of intent on sales with Wuhan Zhongbai Warehouse Supermarket (Group) Co., Ltd.
It is reported that Cihui Farm is the first batch state-level thousand mu green vegetable and food production base in Wuhan; every year it provides 50 varieties of nearly 100,000 tons vegetables for the large number of residents. In order to guarantee that the citizens can eat healthy, high quality and safe vegetables, from 1992, Cihui Farm unceasingly promoted the vegetable quality; in November 2004, ten top vegetable varieties are certified by China Green Foods Development Center to be national A level green foods. From 2005, Cihui Farm had made efforts to the development of organic vegetables and through 2 year organic transformation stage, it had passed through the organic authentication in December 2007 and realized “triple stage jump” from the non-polluted vegetables and green vegetables to the organic vegetables. In 2006 and 2007, “Cihui” green A level vegetables were continually awarded the title of “Gold Medal of Agricultural Products” by the Organizing Committee of China Wuhan Agricultural Exposition for twice.
In 2008, taking Cihui organic vegetables base as the carrier, the farm applies positively for building the state-level Olympic Games vegetables production and promotion base, which will take organic methods to plant and promote new varieties of vegetables for the Olympic Games.
While the base is engaged in the organic vegetables production, the base will successively integrate the farmland around it to the organic management system, carries out the organic food knowledge training to farmers; it is planned to train 1000 persons every year; at the end of 2010, the base area will be expanded to 2000 mu, and a theme park of organic agriculture will be built within two years; it will be created into the first-class agriculture science popularization and education base, organic agriculture demonstration base, sightseeing characteristic agricultural base and farming experience activities base in Central China region.
