Boquan area has a history of 3500 years, with 13 city-level and district-level protective cultural relics such as ancient village, tumulus and ancient site. Of which, the old temple and old well are the most famous.
Jingde Temple is located at Huangtupo of Yuetang village of Boquan Farm, beside the old Boquan Well. It was built in the late Tang dynasty, being the earliest and the largest local Buddhist temple, experiencing so many historical trails and hardships, and now it will be reconstructed.
Reconstruction of Jingde Temple shall make use of the natural conditions and be built beside the hills and water to excavate the local cultural features. It shall be reconstructed into a classic garden like Buddhist sanctuary with the charm of Chu, forming a pattern of an old temple, an old street and an old well.
The Boquan Well located at 200m nearby JingdeTemple was discovered in Tang dynasty, and was a famous scenic spot “Cypress Pavilion in Green Winter Trees” of the former Hanyang county. Because of its good water quality, many aged with longevity came from Yuetang village where the well is located. It is said that there were a hundred of springs in Boquan area. 1500 years have passed, and most of them were filled due to many historical and artificial reasons, with only this one left.
Several scenic spots such as Chaofu Square, Fangsheng (Free) Platform and Nine-step Pier will be added in the Boquan reconstruction project, integrating with JingdeTemple scenic area as a whole. For fully protecting the old well resource, the farm has moved away the villages around, except for tourism purpose, the fountain is forbidden to be taken for drinking and production.
