The broken rice in the paddy processing is regarded as “chicken rib”: its price is comparatively low, but it is very regrettable if you discard it. Now the broken rice is becoming the “treasure” in Jiabao Sugar Industry. The company swallows 400 tons broken rice every day.
Recently, a mass of broken rice is transported into the material warehouse of Jiabao Sugar Industry Company by trucks full loaded, which come from Xiantao, Jingshan and Jianli, etc.
The broken rice will be put into the boiler and transformed into glucose, till fructose through three-step fermentation, namely, the liquefaction, saccharification and isomerization.
It is introduced that the rice yield in common rice factory is about 70% when the paddy is processed, thereinto, the broken rice yield is about 6%.
In 2003, Jiabao Sugar Industry Company was built and put into production in Xingou Town of Dongxihu District. Initially, the daily output was only 200 tons. With the expansion of the size, currently the company has owned 4 domestic advanced production lines, i.e., the high malt syrup, high fructose syrup, corn starch and protein foam powder production lines. The throughput reaches 120,000 tons of high malt syrup, 120,000 tons high fructose syrup and 100,000 tons corn starch per year.
For bringing the 6% broken rice into its own processing industry chain, the Jiabao Sugar Industry reaches agreements with 500 rice mills in Hubei Province, entrusts the rice mill to sign the order form with the farmers and lead them make the “sweet career”.
One principal from Wuhan Agriculture Bureau introduces that the price of the broken rice rises from RMB 1~1.2 Yuan per kilogram to RMB 1.6~1.9 Yuan per kilogram in the surrounding areas.
It is indicated that 1 ton syrup, 130 kilograms protein powder and 65 kilograms protein foam powder can be produced from 1 ton broken rice through calculation. The average value increment is RMB 400 Yuan after processing. At present, the annual syrup output exceeds 100,000 tons in Jiabao Sugar Industry Company. It is able to drive 400,000 mou paddy field to have increase of value and more than 100,000 farmers to increase their income more than 40 million Yuan.
In 2005, the Jiabao Sugar Industry Company was selected as provincial level key leading enterprise of agriculture industrialization. And its five products were recognized as national “green food” in the same year. In 2006, it was awarded the title of “national outstanding foodstuff leading enterprise” by China Food Association.
